The Retreat, in Folkestone, is a meeting ground and practice/perform space for active retirees from the circus world. Unlike a traditional circus, the Retreat is a permanent structure, secured to the site by three steel structural rings. It has with it’s canvas cover, tent-like attributes. In addition there is rigging for re-organisation and a caravan site for the acts to live in. Some of these caravans are static allowing longer stays but temporary lots are available for visiting retirees. Seasonal performances are given to the locals and snowbirds who visit Folkestone in the winter, the more general public in the summer months, performing for schools creating income that supports the running of the retirement community.

The project was first inspired by an artist, Tracy Emin; found objects that make visitors explore Folkstone. The idea was interpreted on a personal point of view. My found objects are being gathered and my routes are being diverted on a prominent site in the Harbour.
This is in a form of a Pavillion not only to house the existing sunday market but to accomodate different activities needed in Folkstone. The programme comprises; one flexible multi-function space. The Pavillion runs seasonal;

Summer; Pavillion to use for band stands, mini  concerts running in conjunction with the market. Triennial; Artist can use the space for exhibition.

Monthly; The multi function space can be use for different purposes depending on the needs of the town; Auctions spaces; Lectures; Seminars and meeting spaces.

Weekly; weekends; Sunday market and other related activities

Everyday; cafe, cocktails and breathing space or relaxation space.

When its empty; Pavillion to house the birds and sea gulls
